Last night, by anyone’s definition you had a blast!  It’s now morning and you have come down with the “morning after misery”. Could it be that very last drink you could have passed on coming back to haunt you?  Could it simply be that you should’ve purchased the premium liquor versus the well liquor?

Time and time again I am asked by regulars and patrons if well liquor tends to give you a hangover where premium liquor does not.  Obviously anyone drinking too much well or premium liquor will have a hangover.  And yes I’ve proved that through my personal research.  However, it is true that you can drink many more premium liquor drinks before reaching your “boiling point” so to speak.  So in conclusion both premium and well liquor will give you a hangover, but you can indulge in more premium drinks and preserve the next day without ordering the extra side effects.

The difference between well (also known as “house” or “bottom shelf”) and premium (also known as “top shelf”) liquor are the impurities are distilled out of the premium liquor and they are smoother and have and richer taste. Whereas well liquors are pretty harsh, have a bite, and even give you that burning sensation as it trickles down the throat. Due to fewer impurities in premium liquor you can enjoy more cocktails without worrying about how you will feel in the morning.

Both well and premium liquors contain ethanol which leads to dehydration, headaches, and dry mouth (the three main symptoms) when taking in too much.  I tend to advise my friends, families, and patrons to make preparation when they know they are going out to “party” by drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy meal (grease tends not to mix well with liquor), and alternate drinking cocktails and water. This way you can enjoy your evening, with no worries of getting up with the “morning after misery.”
